WOMEN’S WINTER WORKSHOP
[a time of community, creativity, & connection]
Intention:
Join us for a time of creative learning, making, sharing, and connecting, led by local makers: Amanda Dexheimer and Amy Armstrong. Together, we’ll be exploring the arts of natural dyeing, ceramics, linocut printing, and wreath-arranging with locally foraged greenery, through a mix of demonstrations and hands-on making.
Location:
Amanda Dexheimer Studio, 123 DeHaven Street, Lincolnville, St. Augustine, FL
When:
10 a.m. - 3 p .m. Saturday November 12, 2016
Tapas lunch included. Lunch will be a casual time of sharing what we’ve learned through our creative expression and encouraging one another.
Mediums + Materials:
Ceramic Ornaments:
Constructed beforehand by Amanda Dexheimer, you’ll get the chance to put your own creative touches on, and apply a gold leaf finish to, hand-crafted ornaments to either stand alone or be included in your wreath-making.
Linocut Printmaking:
You’ll get the opportunity to create and carve your own design to then stamp on a naturally-dyed dish towel. *Dish towels will be available to purchase with donation or feel free to bring your own. Also feel free to bring your own blank cards or gift tags for stamping. Stamps are yours to take home and keep.
Botanical Dye Making:
Three different dye baths will be created ahead of time to allow us to dye at the workshop. As mentioned above you will have the ability to purchase sack cloth tea towels at the workshop by donation. Feel free to bring any additional items you would like to dye. Items for dyeing should be no larger than a standard pillowcase. Each attendant will have the option of dyeing 3-5 itmes with the possibility of more depending on time and resources. You will also go away with a booklet on how to use botanical dyes at home. A brief lesson and demonstration will also go over the basics of dye making and responsible foraging.
Wreath Making:
We intend to have lots of foraged greenery for you to make your very own holiday wreath to take home. Feel free to bring your own ornaments, ribbons, dried items for embelishment.
What You’ll Walk Away With:
New knowledge and know-how, and a handful of holiday gifts for your nearest and dearest, plus something to keep for yourself if you’d like. Whether you’ll be keeping or gifting, everything made in the workshop will be ready to take home day of (no waiting or later pickup required). Your dyed items may require additional drying at home, but can easily be transported in a plastic bag.
